Back to School Clothes Shopping – Where Are the Bargains?

2013 marks my second year shopping for school uniform style attire.  Hands down I found the best bargains for new tops, pants and jeans at Old Navy (specifically OldNavy.com).  Polos are (as of this post) $5 for short sleeve, $8 for long sleeve, $10 for pants and $10 for jeans.

For each style that we wanted for school, I purchased 2-3 in the size (and style) we thought we would need and 2-3 in the size (and style) larger.  I purchased online because it was quick, easy, shipping was free, I did not have to worry about finding the quantities or the sizes that I wanted and the online site offered more sizes and styles than my local store.

Once the items arrived, we needed less than an hour to decide what to keep.  I returned the other items at my local Old Navy store for a refund.

Used Clothing Sales at Schools
Can be a great way to save money.  I was able to add skirts, shorts, t-shirts and gym items with prices from $2 – $10.  Some items still carried the original sales tags. Check with your school.  These sales usually accept cash only.

Parent Chat Lines/Groups
Parent chat lines or parent groups are great resources for items for sale, favorite shops, and group purchases.

Goodwill, Savers and other Second Hand Stores
Involve your  child in finding discounts and good deals.  Make it a game, give them a treat or remind them that money saved here can be better used somewhere else.  Once the clothing is washed, who will care where it was purchased?
